Arsenal have confirmed that they will sign goalkeeper David Ospina from French Ligue 1 side Nice for an undisclosed fee.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper, SBOBET who has been capped 49 by Colombia to his name, has agreed to join on a long-term contract and will challenge Wojciech Scszesny for a first-team place following the departure of Lukasz Fabianski to Swansea City last month.
Ospina began his career with Atletico Nacional in Colombia’s Categoria Primera A league, aged just 17, and won two Categoria Primera Aperturas before switching to Nice in 2008, where he replaced the Lyon-bound Hugo Lloris, Tottenham Hotspur’s present No1.
Over six seasons and 189 Ligue 1 appearances the South American established himself as one of the best keepers in the French top flight, SBOBET, a reputation enhanced by a string of fine displays at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, where he helped his country reach the quarter-finals for the first time.
“David Ospina is an excellent goalkeeper, with good experience and a proven record of performing with Nice and Colombia,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told www.arsenal.com. “He will add strength to our squad and we are very pleased that he will be joining us.”
It is expected Ospina, who wil become the Gunners’ third summer signing following the arrivals of forward Alexis Sanchez and defender Mathieu Debuchy, will make his first Arsenal appearance at the Emirates Cup, which takes place at Emirates Stadium next weekend.
